The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is donating a canine insert to Calhoun County ISD for their canine vehicle, after approval from Jackson County Commissioners.
The donation won’t cost taxpayers anything.
Sheriff Rick Boone said that the insert is no longer of use to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“This is an internal K9 cage that was mounted in an old Tahoe that we have since traded in” he said.
In addition to benefitting Calhoun County ISD, Boone said donating the cage will help clear out storage space for the county.
The insert, which is large, fits a model of vehicle that JCSO no longer owns.
“It’s just sitting back there at the Depot,” he said.
Canine inserts are cages added to the interior of patrol units, usually made out of aluminum or steel. They create a compartment made specifically for dogs, for the safety of K-9 officers and other working dogs while parked and in transit.
JCSO Jackson County Commissioners unanimously approved the donation.
