On November 4, Ganado Police Officers assisted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending a suspect who had escaped from police custody on the morning of November 2 near a property on County Road 240. The suspect, identified as Jose Gilberto Lazo, 42, of Ganado, was located after an extensive search and multi-agency effort. Lazo was found in brush along a fence line and taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail on warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 (≥4g <200g), a Second Degree Felony, and Escape, a Third-Degree Felony.
On November 5, officers responded to an address in the 500 block of W. Devers Avenue regarding a report of stolen jewelry valued at approximately $1,000. The jewelry was later located at a nearby location. No suspect was identified, and the property was returned to its owner.
On November 8, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of W. York Street for a reported domestic disturbance. Officers located a male subject believed to be the primary aggressor, identified as Brandon R. Sless, 39, of Ganado. Following an on-scene investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest Sless for Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Family Member, a Class A Misdemeanor. Sless resisted officers during his arrest but was taken into custody. He was transported to the Jackson County Jail and booked for Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Family Member and Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation, both Class A Misdemeanors.
On November 9, officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of E. Heard. Upon arrival, officers located Braulio J. Cardenas, 30, of El Campo, who appeared intoxicated and was determined to be the
Police Blotter Page 5 source of the disturbance. Cardenas was arrested for Public Intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor, and transported to the Jackson County Jail.
On November 21, Ganado Police Officers responded to a report of a fire at the boat ramp off State Highway 172, just south of town. Upon arrival, officers located a small fire on the pier.
The Ganado Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire could not be definitively determined by officers or fire personnel.
November 25, officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of N.
Second Street regarding a stolen chainsaw. A report was taken. No suspect has been identified at this time.
On November 26, officers encountered three male subjects at Devers Creek Park who were found to be in possession of contraband believed to be tetrahydrocannabinol resin/oil (THC). The contraband was seized, and all subjects were identified. Charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (<1 gram) in a Drug-Free Zone are pending for each individual.
On December 8, officers responded to a disabled vehicle at the FM 710 exit ramp on U.S.
Highway 59 South.
Upon arrival, officers located the driver, identified as Julio Dorantes Jr., age 38, of Goliad. Officers developed probable cause to believe Dorantes had been operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Dorantes was also found to have a suspended driver’s license with previous convictions for driving while license invalid. He was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail for Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions, both Class B Misdemeanors.
