It’s time for the ninth annual Ganado Car Show and the Christmas in the Park Market, presented by the Ganado Farmers Market, and it will be on Friday, December 19, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Devers Creek Park.
Organizers Robin and David Donaldson said 100% of the proceeds are put towards a scholarship fund for 2026 Ganado graduates.
They began the car show to start a scholarship fund for Ganado graduates.
“Three seems to be our lucky number, but it varies every year for the applicants,” Robin said.
“Last year we gave three scholarships for a total of $1500, but it varies from year to year. Each year we have someone who goes above and beyond.”
The applicants must give some of their time to volunteer at the markets for events throughout the year. David said they have volunteers who show up for the Crawfish Festival, the car show, the October festival and Christmas.
“Doing the scholarship fund is our way to give back to the community,” he said. “They help us throughout the year and it builds up their hours for a scholarship. We even have some who come and help us after they graduate just to be a part of the family.”
17 classes are spread throughout the cars, three for trucks from 1900 to the present day, and four classes for the cars, from 1900 to present day. There are open classes: rat rods, street-strip, and motorcycle, and two more, People’s Choice and Mayor’s choice. The awards will be given at 8 p.m.
An entry fee of $35 applies, and registration stops at 3 p.m. the day of the event.
40-plus vendors and several food trucks are expected to be at the Ganado Car Show, and Robin said this year it will be called Candy Cane Lane.
“This is going to be bigger than in the past; we have the human Hungry Hungry Hippo game, an extreme course where people roll in what looks like big hamster rolls, pony rides, bouncy houses, the kids’ train, food trucks, and our fire department,” she said.
“Santa will be there at 6 p.m. and the Pride of the Tribe band will play the introduction. So it’s a full evening of fun for everybody.”
Both said the car show would be nothing without their 12 sponsors; Gold: Sunbelt Rentals, Elite Testing and Screening, Yoakum National Bank, and St. Christians EMS; Silver: Rapid Printing and LNRA; and Bronze: Southbrooke Manor, El Maton National Hall, Friends of the JC Library, Inteplast and First State Bank.
“They cover the cost for the shirts, koozies, and trophies,” Robin said. “It makes a big impact because whatever we make goes straight to the kids.
“So come out and support the community and have a good time.
We love what we’re doing and we just want to share it with everybody,” she said.
