Cowboys fall to Llano in Regional Finals

The Edna Cowboys and Llano squared off in the fourth round of the playoffs and after a hardfought battle, Llano pulled off a late comeback and knocked Edna out of the playoffs, 3835.

Llano opened the game receiving the kickoff, but Edna’s defense came out firing. Strong early stops by Phoenix Robertson, Kyler Runnels, Angel Oliveras, Jayron Barnes, and Mauro Carcamo held the Yellowjackets to a field goal, giving Llano a 3–0 lead.

Edna wasted no time responding as quarterback Trevor Floyd found Keegan Hicks streaking downfield for a stunning 69-yard touchdown, and Jamie Gayton knocked through the extra point to put the Cowboys up 7–3.

After the kickoff, P. Robertson and his brother Maverick Robertson combined to take down the returner, and more tackles from Phoenix and Ja,dale Barnes shut down Llano’s next attempts. A big stop by P. Robetson forced a fumble, recovered by Maurice Tillman, giving Edna the ball back.

The Cowboys moved quickly as Floyd connected with Jordon Bryant for a 35-yard gain, but a fumble at the goal line cut the drive short. It didn’t last long as on the next possession, Tillman grabbed an interception to give Edna another shot only for another fumble to turn it back over to Llano. Cornell Norman came up with a defensive stop, and Llano was forced to punt to end a chaotic first quarter.

Edna opened the second quarter when a connection to Aidan Lugo took the Cowboys to the 12-yard line and then M. Robertson powered into the end zone. Jamie’s kick was good, extending the lead to 14–3.

Llano answered with a touchdown of their own, tightening the score to 14–10.

Lugo gave Edna great field position on the kickoff return to the 49. Floyd then hit M. Robertson for a first down at the Llano 15. But a deflected pass was scooped up by Llano, giving them a turnover.

After forcing a punt, Floyd found Hicks again for a 60 plus yard touchdown, giving Edna a 22–10 lead after the kick .

The Yellowjackets again found the end zone on their ensuing drive, closing the gap to 22–17.

Edna answered instantly. Lugo had a strong return, and M. Robertson moved the chains into Llano territory. Then Floyd hit Hicks again this time for another 50 plus yard touchdown bomb, stretching the lead to 28–17 after the extra point.

The Cowboys’ defense held strong, forcing a punt, and after a tipped pass caught by Hicks, Edna took over on their own one-yard line. A last-second fumble was recovered by Edna, and Llano’s final attempt fell incomplete.

Kason Rodas opened the second half with a solid return, setting up M. Robertson, who punched in another Cowboys touchdown. Gayton connected on another good kick for a 35–17 lead.

Llano immediately fired back with a kickoff return for a touchdown, though Tillmon picked off the two-point attempt, keeping the score at 35–23.

Edna recovered an attempted onside kick, but the Cowboy offense stalled and was forced to punt. The defense continued to make plays forcing another punt.

The Cowboys’ offense struggled to convert on their following possession, and Llano seized the momentum, hitting a deep touchdown pass to cut the score to 35–30.

Edna recovered another onside attempt, and Floyd connected with Lugo for a first down, then a field goal attempt went wide, keeping the score unchanged.

Llano again answered with a touchdown and completed the two-point conversion, taking their first lead since the opening minutes 38–35.

Edna recovered the next onside kick, but Llano intercepted a pass and with under two minutes left, the Cowboys were unable to get the ball back, leaving the final score 38–35 Yellowjackets.

Edna’s season ends in a devastating 38–35 loss to Llano, despite playing a very strong game A tough ending to a hard-fought, and amazing 2025 season for the cowboys, especially the seniors who showed amazing leadership and determination throughout the whole season.
