Cowboys move to round 4 with OT win

The Edna Cowboys took on the Ingram-Moore Warriors Friday night and battled through four quarters and overtime to secure a hardearned 17–14 win, pushing them deeper into their postseason run.

Edna opened the game with the ball, but an early fumble gave Ingram their first break of the night. The Cowboy defense responded immediately with tight coverage from Kyler Runnels and the secondary forced an interception in the end zone by Jordon Bryant, giving the Cowboys possession again.

Quarterback Trevor Floyd sparked the offense with first down completions to Mavrick Robertson and Keegan Hicks, along with another big gain to Bryant. A pass interference call on the Warriors set Edna up in scoring range, and Robertson busted in for the first touchdown of the night. Jamie Gayton’s kick was good, putting Edna on top 7–0.

Ingram tried to answer with a field goal, but the attempt sailed no good. The Cowboys closed out the quarter strong with defensive plays from Khylond Robinson and JR Tello.

Edna opened the second quarter by punting, and the Warriors used the field position to move deep into Cowboy territory. Despite big sacks by Hunter Buehring and Bronze Robertson, Ingram found the end zone to tie the game at 7.

The second quarter had no scoring with both teams turning over the ball and the game went to halftime tied at 7.

The Warriors received the ball to start the second half, but quickly had to punt. After trading punts, Ingram eventually broke through with a touchdown to take a 14–7 lead.

Edna tried to answer with a strong return by Hicks, but a bad snap on the drive pushed the Cowboys back and forced another punt.

The Cowboys struggled early in the fourth, but a huge sack from Kenden Norman followed by another stop from Robertson kept the Warriors from gaining ground. Ingram attempted a field goal to break the tie, but the kick went wide.

Floyd connected with Hicks, who was tripped up just short of the goal line, and Floyd finished the drive himself with a quarterback keeper. Gayton’s kick tied the game at 14.

The Cowboy defense locked in as time wound down, breaking up a pass to force a late Warriors punt as the game headed to overtime.

The Warriors started overtime with the ball, but the Edna defense pushed them backward immediately. After a near interception, and two false starts, Ingram faced a long third-and-30 situation. The thirddown pass was broken up, and another missed field goal kept the score tied.

Edna took full advantage on their possession. Robertson powered forward for a first down, and Floyd kept the ball to the two-yard line. That set up kicker Gayton with a 31-yard attempt and made it to secure the 17–14 overtime victory.

The Cowboys showed grit, composure, and heart all night long, leaning on a relentless defense and clutch offensive plays when the pressure was highest. With the most exciting win of the season, Edna continues their postseason run with confidence and momentum heading into the Regional Finals.

Edna (10-3) will face Llano (12-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Gustafson Stadium at 7001 Culbera Rd. in San Antonio.
