“They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works” (Titus 1:16, ESV).
Talk is cheap.
We all know people whose words don’t match their actions, and if we’re honest, we’ve all been there ourselves. The same danger exists in faith. It’s one thing to say we believe in Jesus; it’s another thing to live like we do. The Bible calls that tension “confessing” versus “denying” Christ. A true confession is more than a statement of belief.
It’s a way of life. Jesus once asked, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”
(Luke 6:46). To confess Him as Lord is to obey Him as Lord, to seek to learn and to do all that Jesus commanded (Matt. 28:18-- 20).
The early Christians understood this.
Their confession, “Jesus is Lord,” wasn’t just something they said at baptism; it was a declaration that shaped their whole lives. They lived differently. They loved their enemies and cared for the poor.
They walked with integrity. Even when threatened, they would not deny their Lord (Acts 4:20).
Our world still needs that kind of confession today. Not loud words, but quiet faithfulness. Not empty slogans, but daily obedience.
When our lives reflect the character of Christ, people see that our confession is real. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).
If you’ve confessed Jesus as Lord, live like it. Let your faith be visible in your words, your work, and all your conduct. And if you haven’t yet made that confession and been baptized, into Christ, there’s no better time than today.
