27-2A teams sweep into Area round The Industrial Cobras powered past the Poth Pirates Thursday night to win their Class 3A Division II Bi-District match, 25-19, 25-22, 2522 and move on in the volleyball playoffs.
Kaylee Honc and Karli Stanush, in particular, led the Cobras to their 34th win of the season.
Honc had 14 kills and Stanush added 13 as Industrial swept the threeset win. In addition, Honc had a .357 hitting percentage, a 50 percent kill percentage, four aces, and a 2.3 serve receive rating, while Stanush had a 2.1 serve receive rating, 16 digs, and a 1.000 defensive efficiency rating.
Rounding out the Cobras’ stats leaders were Kylee Swoboda with 20 digs, Ava Collins with 31 assists and a .282 setting efficiency rating, Clancy Kolle with a block, and Lyla Ellison with a block.
The win set up an Area round match with Great Hearts Monte Vista on Monday at Yoakum. The winner of that match will play the winner of Santa Gertrudis and Vanguard Academy in the Regional Semifinals at a location, date and time to be determined.
Great Hearts is 11-10 on the season and finished third at 6-4 in District 27 behind Marion and Randolph. Santa Gertrudis is 17-10 and the third-place finisher in District 30 behind Orange Grove and Hebbronville, while Vanguard is 22-1 and the winner of District 31.
In Class 3A Division I Bi-District matches involving District 25-3A teams, Columbus beat Nixon-Smiley 3-0 (25-6, 25-3, 25-3) and Goliad beat Yoakum 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-13), while Stockdale beat Hallettsville 3-0 (25-20, 259, 25-19) in Div. II.
Columbus played Marion in the Area round on Monday, after press deadline.
Goliad was ranked No. 1 and Columbus No. 6 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll from the beginning of the playoffs. In Max-Preps, Goliad was No. 1, Columbus No. 5, Stockdale No. 9, and Industrial No. 19.
In Class 2A Div. I Bi-District matches involving District 27-2A teams, Schulenburg beat Yorktown 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-11) and Flatonia beat Kenedy 3-0 (2510, 25-12, 25-22), and in Div. II, Weimar beat Pettus 3-0 (25-14, 25-3, 258) and Shiner beat Falls City 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-22).
Schulenburg played Snook, Flatonia played Thorndale, and Shiner played Granger in the Area round on Monday, and Weimar played Burton in Area on Tuesday.
Burton was ranked No. 2 in the TGCA rankings, while in MaxPreps, Burton was No. 3, Schulenburg No. 8, Weimar No. 16, and Shiner No. 21.
