One’s across the board

One’s across the board

The Golden Cobra Band has been working since January for Regionals in El Campo, all for a seven minute and five second show. But it was worth it: they received straight 1’s for their 2025 show, Paris in Motion.

Director Larry Firmin, along with design team and music writer Paul Jaso and Clayton Harris, were the ones to bring the show to life.

“It included music from Ratatouille, Beauty and the Beast, and an assortment of French-inspired classical and modern music,” Firmin said.

The GCB went into the competition with confidence. Firmin said they’ve had a successful season thus far, the band won the best 3A band in Bastrop at the Lost Pines Marching Festival, and they were on top at the Edna Marching Invitational.

“There is always a level of nerves, because the students care so much about being their best,” Firmin said. “Overall, once we get through the slow movement, things pick up, and we know we’ll have a great performance.”

Now, what next for the Golden Cobra Band?

The next round is the UIL 3A Area D contest at Robinson High School. It will be on Saturday, November 1st. They reached the top five last year, and they hope to do the same again.

If that happens, there will be a trip to the State Marching contest on Wednesday, November 12.

“We will also be attending the Band of America Super Regional in the Alamodome on Saturday, November 8,” Firmin said.
