Texana Members Learn About the Karankawa

Texana Members Learn About the Karankawa

Twelve members of the Texana Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) met on October 13 and learned about the Karankawa tribe, a nomadic people who lived along the Texas coast. Kim Shook, who holds a degree in Anthropology from San Diego State University, presented a slide show and described the Karankawa history and culture. Efforts are still being made to better understand the culture and language of these indigenous people who ceased to exist as a functioning group in the 1890’s.

The Texana Chapter of DRT meets monthly at the Farquhar Building and invites women who are interested in exploring and preserving Texas history to join. For more information about DRT, text 512-750-8903.
