As the District 25-3A volleyball season winds down, the Industrial Cobras are looking to roll into the Class 3A playoffs firing on all cylinders.
The Cobras, ranked No. 19 in Class 3A by MaxPreps, traveled to Yoakum onTuesday and host Hallettsville on Friday in their final district match. Wins over both would give Industrial a sweep of both teams and send the Cobras into a bi-district match on a four-match win streak since losing to Columbus on Oct. 10.
Last Tuesday, Industrial bounced back from that lost to defeat Palacios 25-11, 25-20,25-19. Stats leaders for the Cobras included Karli Stanush with 17 kills and a .280 hitting percentage; Lyla Ellison with four kills; Ava Collins with a 50 percent kill percentage, 18assists, a .222 setting percentage, and two blocks; Aerlin Bethany with three aces; Kylee Swoboda with a 2.6 serve receive rating, 18 digs, and an .800 defensive efficiency rating; Myla Barrientos with a 2.4 serve receive rating; Kaylee Honc with 17 digs; and Clancy Kolle with two blocks.
The Cobras followed that win with another on Friday when they defeated RiceConsolidated 25-7, 25-7, 25-10 to improve to 10-2 in district and 31-14 overall.
Stanush had 15 kills, a 57.7 percent kill percentage, five aces, and nine digs; Honchad 10 kills, 11 digs, and a 1.000 defensive efficiency rating; Bethany had a .600 hittingpercentage; Swoboda had a 2.6 serve receive rating; Barrientos had a 2.3 serve receive rating; Collins had 22 assists and a block; Kolle had a block; and Claire Karl had a .625 setting efficiency rating.
Edna Cowgirls
Edna fought tooth and nail with Yoakum on Tuesday but lost a heartbreaker, 17-25,2516, 20-25, 25-21, 11-15.
Avery Garcia had five aces, 13 kills, and 11 digs; Emersyn Duarte had three aces, five kills, and four digs; Braelyn Tristan had four digs; Keira Santellana had three aces, seven kills, three blocks, and a dig; Kelly Laredo had 13 digs and 17 assists; Leighton Hunt had an ace, four kills, seven digs, and 13 assists; Mariana Ackley had eight kill sand a dig; Marlee Holmes had five assists and 16 digs; Rihanna Woods had two kills and seven blocks; and Serenity Barrera had five kills.
The Cowgirls bounced back with a five-set win over Tidehaven on Friday, beating the Tigerettes 16-25, 2516, 25-18, 21-25, 15-6 to improve to 4-8 in district play and 14-24 on the season.
Garcia had four aces, five kills, 13 digs, and a block and an assist; Duarte had six kills, a block and three digs; Tristan had three digs; Santellana had 11 kills, four blocks, and three digs; Laredo had three aces, 15 digs, and 16 assists; Hunt had two aces, three kills, 13 digs, and six assists; Ackley had six kills, two blocks, and three digs; Holmes had two aces, a kill, an assist, and 16 digs; Woods had four kills, five blocks, and a dig; and Barrera had two kills, a block, and a dig.
The Cowgirls wrap up their season by hosting Palacios on Tuesday in their final home game and traveling to Columbus on Friday.
Ganado Maidens
The Maidens fell to Flatonia Tuesday, 8-25, 11-25, 15-25. Rhylee Smith led the team with two aces and a tip, Gwen Reid with two kills, Michaela Estrada with an ace and a kill, Mackenzie Tovar with an ace, a kill, and a tip, Addison Tudyk with an ace and a kill, and Cali Beard with two kills.
On Friday, Ganado lost to Schulenburg, 625, 8-25, 9-25, despite senior libero Kyla Stancik’s eight digs.
The Maidens close out the season at Shiner on Tuesday and at Louise at 4:30 p.m.on Friday. District 25-3A With the district wrapping up Friday, Columbus continues its unbeaten march through 25-3A, leading the district at 12-0 as of Sunday. Industrial was in second placeat 10-2, a game ahead of Hallettsville (9-3) and three games ahead of fourthplace Yoakum (7-5).
Edna was in fifth place (5-7), followed by Palacios (4-8), Tidehaven (2-10), and Rice Consolidated (0-12).
Tuesday’s games included Rice at Tidehaven, Hallettsville at Columbus, Industrial at Yoakum, and Palacios at Edna. Friday’s season finales include Edna at Columbus, Hallettsville at Industrial, Palacios at Tidehaven, and Rice Consolidated at Yoakum.
Last Tuesday, Hallettsville defeated Rice 3-0, Yoakum beat Edna 3-2, Columbus beat Tidehaven 3-0, and Industrial beat Palacios 30. On Friday, Edna beat Tidehaven 3-2, Palacios knocked off Hallettsville 3-2, Industrial beat Rice 3-0, and Columbus beat Yoakum 3-1.
District 27-2A The district battle between ranked teams continued last week. On Tuesday, Schulenburg (No. 9 MaxPreps) beat Shiner (No. 21 Max-Preps) 3-0, Weimar (No. 12TVI, No. 15 Max-Preps) beat Louise 3-0, and Flatonia beat Ganado 3-0. On Friday, Flatonia knocked off Weimar 3-2, Schulenburg beat Ganado 3-0, and Shiner beat Louise 3-0.
That left Schulenburg, Flatonia, and Weimar in a three-way tie for first at 6-2 in district play, followed by Shiner at 5-3, Louise at 1-7, and Ganado at 0-8.
District play wraps up this week. On Tuesday, Ganado played at Shiner, Louise was at Flatonia, and Schulenburg was at Weimar. Friday’s district finales include Ganado at Louise at 4:30 p.m., Shiner at Weimar, and Flatonia at Schulenburg.
