Cobras sweep Edna in 25-3A volleyball, lose to Columbus

The Industrial Cobras made sure not to let rival Edna gain much of a foothold Tuesday night, defeating the host Cowgirls 25-11, 25-21, 25-10 to sweep the home-andhome District 25-3A series between the two rivals. Karli Stanush recorded 14 kills, 16 digs, and a serve receive rating of 2.4 for Industrial; Lyla Ellison had five kills; Aerlin Bethany had a hitting percentage of .667, a kill percentage of 66.7, 14 digs, and a defensive efficiency of .750; Ava Collins served two aces and had 11 assists and a setting efficiency of .333; Kaylee Honc had a serve receive rating of 1.9 and a pair of blocks; and Clancy Kolle had two blocks.

For Edna, Avery Garcia served an ace to go with four kills, four digs, and an assist; Emersyn Duarte had two kills, an ace, and a dig; Braelyn Tristan had two digs; Keira Santellana had eight kills, an ace, and a dig; Kelly Laredo had eight digs, eight assists, and an ace; Leighton Hunt had seven digs, six assists, an ace, and a kill; Mariana Ackley had two kills; Marlee Holmes had 18 digs and an assist; and Rihanna Woods had three blocks and two kills.

On Friday, the Cowgirls fell to Hallettsville, 14-25, 17-25, 15-25, slipping to 3-7 in the district standings and 13-23 overall.

Garcia had seven digs and three kills against the Lady Brahmas; Duarte had a pair of kills, a pair of digs, and an ace; Tristan had three digs; Santellana had four kills and two blocks; Laredo had 11 assists, five digs, and an ace; Hunt had six digs, five assists, and four kills; Ackley had four kills, two digs, and a block; Holmes had 12 digs and two assists; and Woods had five blocks and a kill.

Meanwhile, the Cobras lost at home to stateranked Columbus, 20-25, 23-25, 18-25 on Friday to drop to 8-2 in district and 29-14 overall.

Honc had 10 kills with a 33 percent kill percentage, 15 digs, a .765 defensive efficiency and a block against the Cardinals; Stanush had five kills, two aces, and a 1.9 serve receive rating; Kolle had a .333 hitting percentage and a pair of blocks; Kylee Swoboda had a 1.6 serve receive rating and 19 digs; and Ava Collins had 20 assists and a .167 setting efficiency rating.

Edna began a run of three straight home matches on Tuesday, hosting Yoakum Tuesday, then Tidehaven on Friday and Palacios on Tue., Oct. 21 for their final home match of the season. They conclude the district season at Columbus on Oct. 24.

Industrial kicked off three straight road matches on Tuesday, traveling to Palacios, then to Rice Consolidated on Friday and to Yoakum on Tue., Oct.

21. The Cobras end district on Fri., Oct. 24 by hosting Hallettsville for Parent/Senior/Alumni Night.

Ganado Maidens

The Ganado Maidens played hard in matches against Louise and Weimar but fell short in both. The Maidens won the first game against Louise, 25-21, but the Hornets rallied to win the next three and take the match, 8-25, 12-25, 1225 on Tuesday. Weimar, ranked No. 11 in Max-Preps, beat Ganado 7-25, 13-25, 10-25.

Junior Michaela Estrada served seven aces against the Hornets and hit .600 for the match.

Senior Kyla Stancik had two aces and passed a 2.2 on the match against Louise. Senior Cali Beard blocked four hits and recorded five kills, hitting .550 against Louise.

Ganado hosts Schulenburg on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in its final home match, which is Senior Night.

District 25-3A On Tuesday, Industrial defeated Edna 3-0, Hallettsville beat Tidehaven 3-0, Yoakum beat Palacios 3-0, and Columbus beat Rice Consolidated 3-0. Friday afternoon, Columbus beat Industrial 3-0, Hallettsville beat Edna 3-0, Palacios beat Rice Consolidated 3-1, and Yoakum beat Tidehaven 3-0.

As a result, Columbus leads the district at 10-0, with Industrial and Hallettsville tied at 8-2 for second place. Yoakum is in fourth at 6-4, followed by Edna, Tidehaven and Palacios at 3-7, and Rice Consolidated at 0-10.

This week’s Tuesday matches included Columbus at Tidehaven, Hallettsville at Rice Consolidated, Industrial at Palacios, and Yoakum at Edna. On Friday, Palacios is at Hallettsville, Columbus is at Yoakum, Industrial is at Rice Consolidated, and Tidehaven is at Edna.

On Tue., Oct. 21, Industrial travels to Yoakum, Hallettsville is at Columbus, Palacios travels to Edna, and Rice Consolidated is at Tidehaven. District play concludes on Fri., Oct. 24 when Industrial hosts Hallettsville, Edna travels to Columbus, Rice Consolidated is at Yoakum, and Palacios is at Tidehaven.

District 27-2A On Tuesday, Louise beat Ganado 3-1, Shiner beat Weimar 3-0, and Flatonia defeated Schulenburg 3-1. On Friday, Weimar beat Ganado 3-0, Schulenburg beat Louise 3-0, and Shiner beat Flatonia 3-0.

As a result, Weimar is now in first at 5-1, followed by Schulenburg, Shiner, and Flatonia at 42, with Louise at 1-5 and Ganado at 0-6.

Tuesday matches this week included Flatonia at Ganado, Louise at Weimar, and Shiner at Schulenburg. On Friday, Ganado hosts Schulenburg, Weimar is at Flatonia, and Shiner is at Louise.

On Tue., Ganado travels to Shiner, Louise is at Flatonia, and Schulenburg is at Weimar. The district wraps up on Fri., Oct. 24 when Ganado travels to Louise, Shiner is at Weimar, and Flatonia is at Schulenburg.
