It’s been said, “If you need to borrow a cup of sugar, you knock on your neighbor’s door.”
The membership of Jackson County Retired School Personnel can experience this oft repeated custom for themselves at the Monday, October 20 meeting.
This program was originally scheduled for late May but was canceled due to presenter illness.
A group called Pioneer Women – Texas Story Tellers will present, “some gossip, some tall tales and some stories,” that relate to true pioneering incidents such as borrowing a half a cup of sugar, a common bartering practice of frontier women.
The program’s script is based on the book Sunbonnet Angel – Hitch Your Wagon to a Star, by Josephine Ella White, in which the author has drawn from a wealth of research, genealogical study, family lore, and her love of Texas. Jackson County Retired School Personnel’s own memories are sure to be ignited by the stories and memories of the old-timers in Texas.
Plan to RSVP to Kathy Johnson at 361781-4004 by Thursday October 16. St. Paul Lutheran Church Parish Hall at 108 E. Gayle Street in Edna will be the host location. A catered lunch will be served after the invocation is given by Charlotte Bonnot, and the group has pledged to the US and Texas flags, led by Darleen Wilkinson.
The day’s program will also include a report from the attendees of the TRTA District 3 Fall Conference. With more than 240 Texas retired school personnel chapters, retirees can find information, support and aid by maintaining membership in one’s local organization.
