With the first half of district play completed, one Jackson County school holds down second place with the other in fifth, but easily in striking distance for a playoff spot.
The Industrial Cobras, ranked No. 15 in the Texas Volleyball Insider rankings and No.
20 in MaxPreps, is in second place in District 25-3A with their only loss coming at the hands of district leader Columbus, ranked No. 5 by MaxPreps, No. 7 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, and No. 12 by TVI.
On Tuesday the Cobras traveled to Hallettsville for the final game in the first round of District 25-3A competition and came home with a 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 win. Karli Stanush recorded 14 kills and a 2.3 serve receive rating; Lyla Ellison had nine kills and a 39.1 kill percentage; Clancy Kolle had a block and a .375 hitting percentage; Kylee Swoboda served four aces with a 1.7 serve receive rating, 13 digs, and a defensive efficiency rating of .529; Kaylee Honc had nine digs; Ava Collins had 29 assists and a setting efficiency rating of .227; and Madi Kubecka had a pair of blocks.
Industrial finished the week by defeating Tidehaven 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 on Friday to improve to 28-13 overall and 7-1 in district.
Stanush had eight kills, a 2.0 serve receive rating, 18 digs, and a .895 defensive efficiency rating against the Tigerettes. Kolle had seven kills, a .700 hitting percentage and 70 percent kill percentage; Aerlin Bethany served four aces; Honc had a 2.1 serve receive rating, 19 digs, and a block; Collins had 13 assists and a setting efficiency rating of .265; and Kubecka had a block.
Edna Cowgirls
The Cowgirls (1321, 3-5) split matches last week, losing to state-ranked Columbus 3-0 but rebounding to beat Rice Consolidated 3-1 on Friday.
On Tuesday Columbus defeated Edna 18-25, 12-25, 11-25.
Leading the Cowgirls were Avery Garcia with three kills and 11 digs; Emersyn Duarte with a kill and four digs; Julie Koch with two digs; Keira Santellana with three aces, five kills, a block, and five kills; Kelly Laredo with seven digs and nine assists; Leighton Hunt with two aces, five digs, and five assists; Mariana Ackley with four kills; Marlee Holmes with nine digs; Serenity Barrera with three kills; and Rihanna Woods with two kills, two blocks, and a dig.
Friday, the Cowgirls beat Rice 25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15 prior to the Homecoming football game.
Garcia had six aces, seven kills, an assist, and seven digs; Duarte had an ace, five kills, and nine digs; Braelyn Tristan had a pair of digs; Santellana had four aces, 12 kills, four blocks and three digs; Laredo had 13 digs and 15 assists; Hunt had an ace, six kills, five digs and 14 assists; Ackley had nine kills and a dig; Holmes had an ace, an assist, and five digs; Barrera had two kills; and Woods had two kills and two blocks.
Ganado Maidens
The Maidens lost a District 29-2A match to state-ranked Schulenburg 3-0 on Tuesday, losing 5-25, 12-25, 2-25. Stats leaders included Rhylee Green with three kills and six assists; Michaela Estrada with two kills; Avery Torres with an assist; and Gwen Reid and Addison Tudyk each with a kill.
Ganado dropped its match on Friday against Shiner, 8-25, 11-25, 625. Green had 10 assists against Shiner.
District 25-3A On Tuesday, Columbus beat Edna 3-0, Yoakum beat Rice Consolidated 3-0, Industrial beat Hallettsville 3-0, and Tidehaven beat Palacios 3-2. On Friday, Edna beat Rice Consolidate 3-1, Industrial beat Tidehaven 3-0, Hallettsville beat Yoakum 3-0, and Columbus beat Palacios 3-0.
As a result, Columbus leads the district at 8-0, followed by Industrial in second place at 7-1, Hallettsville in third at 6-2, Yoakum in fourth at 4-4, Edna in fifth at 35, Tidehaven in sixth at 2-6, Palacios in seventh at 1-7, and Rice Consolidated in eighth at 0-8.
This week’s Tuesday matches included Industrial at Edna at 6 p.m., Rice Consolidated at Columbus, Palacios at Yoakum, and Tidehaven at Hallettsville. On Friday, Industrial hosts Columbus for a 4:30 p.m. varsity match; Edna travels to Hallettsville for a 4:30 p.m. game; Rice Consolidated hosts Palacios; and Tidehaven hosts Yoakum.
On Tue., Oct. 14, Columbus is at Tidehaven, Hallettsville is at Rice Consolidated; Industrial is at Palacios, and Yoakum is at Edna.
All are 6 p.m. varsity starts.
District 27-2A On Tuesday, Schulenburg beat Ganado 3-0, Shiner beat Louise 3-0, and Weimar beat Flatonia 3-0. Friday afternoon, Shiner beat Ganado 3-0, Flatonia beat Louise 3-0, and Weimar beat Schulenburg 3-1.
As a result, Weimar is now in first at 4-0, followed by Schulenburg and Flatonia in second at 3-1, Shiner in fourth at 2-2, and Ganado and Louise tied at 0-4.
Tuesday matches this week included Louise at Ganado and Schulenburg at Flatonia.
On Friday, Ganado plays at Weimar, Flatonia is at Shiner, and Schulenburg is at Louise.
On Tue., Oct. 14, Flatonia is at Ganado, Louise is at Weimar, and Shiner is at Schulenburg.
