After three consecutive losses, the Edna Cowboys roared back in Friday’s Homecoming Game to take down Aransas Pass 56-2.
Edna needed a big win after losing their first district game to Orange Grove and they delivered by jumping out to a 35-0 halftime lead before cruising to the finish.
The success of the team was widespread, with Maverick Robinson being named Player of the Week on the strength of 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns on offense and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Keegan Hicks added two touchdowns while Marquis Tilmon added a receiving touchdown, and Kyler Runnels had a pick-six. Hicks also went 8 for 8 on extra points.
The district has already been unpredictable, only two games in. Along with Edna falling to Orange Grove, CC London and Goliad moved to 2-0. Palacios hung within a touchdown of Goliad until the fourth quarter. Orange Grove won again over West Oso.
Edna has the opportunity to still capture the district crown, but they will likely need to roar through the rest of district, hope Goliad defeats O.G. and then they would need to defeat Goliad. However, right now, getting to the playoffs is the most important.
Edna will continue district play at Mathis on Friday.
