First to present at TAMU-Victoria

First to present at TAMU-Victoria

Ganado’s Dr. Yusuke Yahagi has been invited by the newly established Texas A&M University-Victoria science department to give a presentation on Tuesday, October 14 at 1 p.m. It will be held in the south building of the TAMU-Victoria campus, room 216.

This prestigious honor is quite significant, because what he will be presenting cannot be found in any medical or science book thus far, and he has been working on it for the last 25 to 30 years.

Yahagi is the first person asked to be a guest speaker at TAMU, although he’s given several presentations on the UHV campus in the past.

“The topic will be Cardiogenic Shock,” he explained. “My role in the presentation is to explain what medical shock is, because people can be in shock hanging in between life and death, so I will define shock and describe several classifications of shock.”

He was the Chief of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Victoria Citizens Medical Center for numerous years, and has performed many openheart surgeries. During that time, he experienced lots of people in shock, because the heart doesn’t always want to wake up after a normal heart surgery.

Yahagi spent many nights making sure he acquired all the data, while examining his patients who were hooked up to many different monitors.

“After that, I established a way to diagnose cardiogenic shock. What’s more interesting, is after I sat down for so many years, (I’ve been a doctor since 1996), I came up with a way to treat cariogenic shock very efficiently,” he said.

The doctor said this distinction is special to him, to be asked by TAMU, because he’s been requested for many presentations nowadays, from scientific groups to local hospitals, universities and clinics.

Local and government officials will be in attendance on October 14, plus a large number of medically and scientifically proficient people.

“I’m so honored, because they’ll get to know not only who I am, but I get to present some of the scientific topics which might be very good for the Golden Crescent,” Yahagi said. “I’m very happy that I have the opportunity to present something like that to everyone.”

At Ganado ISD, Yahagi currently teaches preap biology, biology, anatomy and physiology, plus a medical assisting class, where one can obtain a state certification at the end, in order to work in a medical or hospital setting. He also coaches UIL science for both high school and junior high, plus he is the director of the Ganado Medical Club.

The University of Houston-Victoria campus turned into Texas A&M University-Victoria on September 1 of this year.
