From EMS to officer, Taylor has a servant’s Heart

Dwayne Taylor has what he calls a “servant’s heart,“ and he loves his small town.

“I know it’s cliche,“ he said.”I have always enjoyed people. I enjoy helping people.”

He has spent over four decades in public service, starting in EMS in 1982. Since then, he has worked as a volunteer, as a full time EMT with the Jackson County Hospital District, and as a peace officer with the Edna Police Department, The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and his present home, the Ganado Police Department.

His public service has been right here in Jackson County, where he has lived his entire life.

“I never was going to work law enforcement anywhere except Jackson County. I’m a small town, hometown boy.”

Taylor said that he has been proud to do every job he has done, but he particularly loves serving the public in his home town.

“Ganado is my home,“ he said.

The 62-year-old police officer is driven by a love of his community, and says that although there aren’t many patrol officers his age, he is still doing exactly what he wants to do.

“I just like the public,“ he said. “I like being in it. I’m not tired of if yet. I’ll know when it’s time to get out.”

He also keeps his EMS license up to date and to this day is an Intermediate EMT.

When he isn’t working, he is spending as much time as possible with his wife, Wanda, their five children, and 11 grandchildren.
