Indians open district play with blowout win

One week after losing their first game in a year to state-ranked Tidehaven, the Ganado Indians opened district play with a 46-0 victory over Flatonia.

Ganado opened the game with a scoring blitz, putting up 27 first-quarter points. After the first half, a continuously running clock limited the scoring and the Indians cruised to the big win.

“The kids played well,” Ganado Head Coach Josh Ervin said. “They improved in areas we focused on in practice over the previous week. Defensively, we fit the run and tackled well.”

After the Tidehaven Game, the Indians were faced with questions. Logan Bures and Landyn Arriaga were both injured against the Tigers, but both did return and left their mark on the field.

Arriaga went 17 for 19 for 199 yards while Bures carried the ball 15 times for 214 yards and scored three touchdowns.

In the middle of his fourth year as a head coach, Ervin picked up his 40th win.

Now back in the win column, the Indians will continue their drive to the district title next week when they host Kenedy (41) for Homecoming. Halfway through the season, Kenedy leads the district in scoring, although their opponents have been nothing close to what the Indians have faced.
