The Cowgirls (12-20, 2-4) earned a win Tuesday against Tidehaven but dropped a close match to Palacios on Friday.
Edna dropped the first two games to the Tigerettes, 22-25 and 19-25, but rallied to win the next three 25-20, 25-20, 15-9 to claim the match and improve to 2-3 in district and 12-19 overall.
Avery Garcia recorded two aces, 12 kills, 23 digs and two blocks; Emersyn Duarte had 10 kills, an assist, and two digs; Julie Koch had an ace and 19 digs; Keira Santellana had an ace, 10 kills, four blocks, and two digs; Kelly Laredo had an ace, 13 digs, and 19 assists; Leighton Hunt had 10 digs, two kills, and 13 assists; Mariana Ackley had three kills, a block and a dig; Marlee Holmes had 29 digs and an assist; Serenity Barrera had three kills and two digs; and Rihanna Woods had two kills and four blocks.
The Cowgirls fell behind Palacios on Friday, 23-25 and 23-25, again rallied to win the third game 25-23, but could not repeat Tuesday’s comeback, falling 20-25 in the fourth and deciding game to the Sharkettes.
Against Palacios, Garcia had six kills and 23 digs; Duarte had six kills and one dig; Koch had an ace and 12 digs; Santellana had 13 kills, three blocks, and two digs; Laredo had two aces, a kill, three digs, and 15 assists; Hunt had two aces, six digs, a kill, and 12 assists; Ackley had three kills and five digs; Holmes had two aces, 21 digs, and an assist; Barrera had three kills, a block, and two digs; and Woods had a kill and two blocks.
Industrial Cobras
The Cobras (26-13, 51) continued to roll, downing Rice Consolidated 3-0 on Tuesday and beating Yoakum 3-0 on Friday.
Industrial cruised by Rice 25-15, 25-3, 25-10 at home on Tuesday, led by Kaylee Honc with 10 kills, eight digs, a defensive efficiency rating of 1.0, and a block; Karli Stanush with nine kills and a 2.0 serve receive rating; Madi Kubecka with a .667 hitting percentage and 66.7 kill percentage; Ivy Sanchez with four aces; Kylee Swoboda with a 2.3 serve receive rating and four digs; Ava Collins with 11 assists; Claire Karl with a .692 setting efficiency rating; and Clancy Kolle with a block.
Friday afternoon, the Cobras beat Yoakum 2521, 25-22, 25-10 to win their fifth district match.
Stanush recorded 11 kills, a 1.7 serve receive rating, and 15 digs; Honc had eight kills and 11 digs; Kubecka had a .200 hitting percentage and a 33.3 kill percentage; Lyla Ellison had an ace, a block, and a .750 defensive efficiency rating; Swoboda had a 1.6 serve receive rating; and Collins had 18 assists, a .305 setting efficiency, and a block.
As of Sunday evening, the Cobras were ranked No. 15 by the Texas Volleyball Insiders and No. 20 in MaxPreps.
Ganado Maidens
The Maidens opened District 27-2A play with a pair of 3-0 losses to Weimar Tuesday and Flatonia on Friday.
Ganado lost to Weimar 3-25, 5-25, 9-25 on Tuesday. Stats leaders included Rhylee Smith with three kills, three assists, and an ace; Avery Torres with two kills, an assist, and an ace; and MaKenzie Tovar with a kill.
On Friday, the Maidens lost to Flatonia 9-25, 12-25, 7-25. No stats were available from the Flatonia match.
District 25-3A On Tuesday, Columbus defeated Yoakum 3-0, Industrial beat Rice Consolidated 3-0, Edna beat Tidehaven 3-2, and Hallettsville beat Palacios 3-0.
Friday afternoon, Industrial defeated Yoakum 3-0, Tidehaven beat Rice Consolidated 3-0, Columbus beat Hallettsville 3-0, and Palacios beat Edna 3-1.
As a result, Columbus leads the district at 6-0, followed by Industrial and Hallettsville tied at 5-1, Yoakum at 3-3, Edna and Palacios tied at 2-4, Tidehaven at 1-5, and Rice Consolidated at 0-6.
Tuesday matches this week included Tidehaven at Palacios, Yoakum at Rice Consolidated, Columbus at Edna, and Industrial at Hallettsville. Friday’s matches include Industrial at Tidehaven, Rice Consolidated at Edna, Palacios at Columbus, and Hallettsville at Yoakum.
On Tue., Oct. 7, Edna hosts Industrial at 6 p.m., Rice Consolidated at Columbus, Palacios at Yoakum, and Tidehaven at Hallettsville.
District 27-2A On Tuesday, Flatonia defeated Shiner 3-2, Schulenburg beat Louise 30, and Weimar beat Ganado 3-0. Friday afternoon, Weimar beat Louise 3-0 and Flatonia defeated Ganado 3-0. Schulenburg beat Shiner 3-2 on Saturday.
As a result, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar are tied for first at 2-0, while Shiner, Ganado, and Louise are tied for fourth at 0-2.
Tuesday matches this week included Louise at Shiner, Ganado at Schulenburg, and Flatonia at Weimar. Friday’s matches include Weimar at Schulenburg, Shiner at Ganado, and Flatonia at Louise.
On Tue., Oct. 7, Ganado hosts Louise and Schulenburg hosts Flatonia.
