Cobras, Cowgirls continue District 25-3A play

The Industrial Cobras dropped a tough match against state-ranked Columbus in a District 25-3A contest on Tuesday but rebounded with a win Friday against Palacios.

The Cobras (24-13 overall) moved to 3-1 in district play after beating Palacios 25-6, 25-9, 25-12 Friday, led by Karli Stanush with nine kills, nine aces, 10 digs, and a 2.8 serve receive rating; Lyla Ellison with seven kills; Madi Kubecka with a .400 hitting percentage and a 40 percent kill percentage; Myla Barrientos with a 2.6 serve receive rating, 16 digs, and an .882 defensive efficiency rating; Claire Karl with 10 assists; Ava Collins with a .500 setting efficiency rating; Clancy Kolle with two blocks; and Kaylee Honc with a block.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, Industrial returned home from Columbus (26-4, 4-0) with a 1925, 16-25, 20-25 loss.

Leading the team statistically were Ellison with eight kills and a 2.2 serve receive rating; Honc with five kills; Kolle with a .333 hitting percentage; Kubecka with a 49.2 kill percentage; Karl with an ace; Stanush with a 2.2 serve receive rating, 14 digs, and a .647 defensive efficiency rating; Kylee Swoboda with 14 digs; and Collins with 13 assists and a .250 setting efficiency.

This week, the Cobras hosted Rice Consolidated on Tuesday for Teacher Appreciation Night and they host Yoakum on Friday with the varsity at 4:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity games. They travel to Hallettsville on Tue., Sept. 30.

Edna Cowgirls

The Edna Cowgirls (1118, 1-2) lost both of their district matches last week, falling to Hallettsville and Yoakum.

The Cowgirls lost a heartbreaker to Hallettsville on Tuesday, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 1015. Avery Garcia had an ace, 12 kills, and nine digs; Emersyn Duarte had six kills and three digs; Julie Koch had four aces and 13 digs; Keira Santellana had two aces, seven kills, four blocks and a dig; Kelly Laredo had two kills, 16 digs, and 16 assists; Leighton Hunt had four digs, a kill, and 14 assists; Marlee Holmes had 20 digs, an assist and a kill; Mariana Ackley had two kills, a block, and a dig; Serenity Barrera had four kills, one block and a dig; and Rihanna Woods had a kill and three blocks.

On Friday the Cowgirls lost another tough match to Yoakum, 12-25, 25-22, 1425, 16-25.

Statistically the team was led by Garcia with an ace, 17 kills, 19 digs and a block; Duarte with three kills and a dig; Koch with an ace and 10 digs; Santellana with an ace, six kills, two blocks, and a dig; Laredo with 12 digs and 16 assists; Hunt with two aces, nine digs, one kill, and nine assists; Holmes with 20 digs and three assists; Barrera with two kills and a dig; and Woods with three blocks.

This week, Edna traveled to Tidehaven for a Tuesday match and will play Friday at Palacios at 4:30. The Cowgirls return home on Tue., Sept. 30 to host Columbus at 6 pm.
