The Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association investigated two separate horse thefts from Jackson County as three stolen horses were located in Victoria County, and one in Brazoria County.
Special Ranger Nathan Hale, with help from TSCRA Special Ranger Robert Fields and local law enforcement, tracked down the animals and helped return them to their rightful owners, according to an email from TSCRA to the Jackson County Herald-Tribune.
On August 1, the Ganado Police Department asked the public to help locate three missing horses, which had been taken from a Ganado pasture.
The next day, the department updated, saying the horses had been found, and were in the custody of law enforcement.
“The stolen livestock have been successfully located in Victoria County and are now in the custody of law enforcement,” the post said. “Arrangements are being made for their return to the rightful owners. A suspect has been identified and the investigation remains active. Due to the specific nature of the offense involving livestock theft, the case is being handled by a Special Ranger with the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.”
Elizabeth Marie Jameson, 56, was booked into the Jackson County Jail charged with one count of Theft of Cattle/Horse/Exotic Livestock, a third-degree felony. She is out on bond.
Later, according to TSCRA, another report of a stolen horse promoted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to contact TSCRA regarding another report of a stolen horse, and a deputy provided pertinent info on a suspect and contact. Hale and Fields recovered the horse in Brazoria County.
Hayden Morton, 17, was arrested on August 27. He is also out on bond awaiting a court date.
TSCRA also said that Hayden is a subject of an ongoing livestock theft investigation in DeWitt County regarding two more horses, which have been returned home, with warrants pending.
“Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association extends sincere appreciation to the Ganado Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and members of the public who provided valuable tips and assistance,” the email said.
TSCRA Special Rangers in Texas are peace officers commissioned through the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to the TSCRA website, Special Rangers investigate livestock theft, theft of equipment like trailers and tack, and help reunite owners and livestock.
