Building trust through spiritual growth
“But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” (Hebrews 5:14, ESV) What happens when we stop treating Christianity as a finish line and start treating it asa lifelong pursuit?
What happens when we allow God to shape us and truly grow us into the image of Christ? What happens when we let Him make us better?
The answer is simple, but powerful.
We become people others can trust. As we grow in Christ, we become more consistent and discerning. We become more Christlike. That kind of life builds trust with one another and with the world that is watching (1 Tim.
4:15;Matt. 5:13-16; 1 Pet. 2:11-12).
So how do we grow?
First, we need desire. Ask God to stir your heart. Pray for humility to see where you need to grow. Ask God for the courage to pursue transformation and growth (Matt. 7:711; Heb. 11:16).
Second, we need direction. Growth doesn’t happen in the dark. Let God’s word expose your blind spots, and guide your steps (Heb. 4:12-13; Ps. 119:105; 2 Tim.
3:16-17). If you are part of a local church, ask your shepherds for help. Seek counsel from faithfulChristians who know you and want the best for your soul.
Finally, we need discipline. Maturity comes through constant practice, the daily habit of doing what God says, even when it is hard (Heb.
5:14; Jas. 1:22-25).
Growth means listening to feedback. It means risking discomfort. It means pressing forward, even when you’re tired (Phil.
3:12-14).
God desires that each of us grow, not just for our sakes, but for the sake of others too.As we mature in Christ, we become better equipped to serve, love, and lead others toHim (Rom.
8:28-29; Eph. 4:15-16; 1 Tim. 4:15; Titus 2:10).
