Going into the second half, Refugio started with the ball but fumbled on the first play, giving the Cowboys an early touchdown by Hicks and making the score 21–14. Refugio answered with a touchdown to extend their lead to 27– 14. Later, a Cowboys punt bounced off a Refugio player into their teammate’s hands in the end zone for another touchdown, making it 34–14, though the 2-point conversion was stopped by Kobyn Molina. Edna continued to fight, with M. Robertson powering the offense on a strong carry.
Edna opened the fourth quarter with M. Robertson picking up a first down and multiple passes from Adrian Boston to Hicks, challenging the end zone. P. The Bobcats added another touchdown to go up 41–21, and later scored on a 76-yard punt return for 48–21. Edna continued to fight with strong runs from M. Robertson, Jayron Barnes, and Aidan Lugo, showing determination until the final whistle. The team left everything on the field and showed a lot of grit and effort throughout the game.
After the game, P. Robertson said, “Games like last night separate players— the ones who play harder as the games get harder, and the ones who get soft when the game gets hard. The game definitely shined a spotlight on things we need to work on with the team: O-line, defensive fits, and making tackles when the opportunity is given. Tough games make tough players.”
Edna has an open week this week. The Cowboys return to play when they travel to Orange Grove to open District play on September 25.
