Spectators, watch your behavior

A new law has come into effect which will allow game officials to remove spectators immediately for disruptive or inappropriate behavior, without a warning. This goes for any school-sponsored or UILsanctioned athletic event, no matter the level.

“Specifically, the bill removes the requirement that an official must first provide a verbal warning and wait for persistent inappropriate behavior before ejecting a spectator,” the summary stated. “Under the new provision, officials can immediately remove a spectator without going through the previous twostep process of warning and observing continued misconduct.”

Texas Law SB 2929 was passed and effective at the beginning of the 2025 school year, and modifies the Texas Education Code to give referees, judges, and other officials. Hopefully, it will maintain a positive atmosphere for everyone at the events by
