“There’s no substitute for a great teacher” – nor for a great retired educator. If you belong to that prestigious second category, you should make plans to attend the 2025-2026 opening brunch and prospective member seminar of the local Jackson County Retired School Personnel.

All will be welcome at the Edna First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, at 309 Cottonwood St. at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 15.

What’s in it for you? The organization is a path toward a better retirement experience. JCRSP provides expertise regarding pension funding through legislative action. Additionally, support of active school personnel is always on the agenda as is the desire to encourage potential leaders by awarding high school scholarships.

The passage of Proposition 9 that provided COLA payments for TRS annuitants was the result of years of interaction between local member organizations and the state. For those who also have worked and paid into Social Security, the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) is a direct result of the multi-year efforts by local retired school personnel groups across Texas.

Thus, it is a certainty that membership in TRTA and JCRSP is to the advantage of any retired education individual.

To complement the financial aspect of membership, local meetings include loads of laughter, excellent food, door prizes and an interesting program each month. For example, at the Monday, September 15 free brunch, the group will enjoy the musical talent of retired local educator Jack Motley, who has been sharing his musical creations with others throughout his lifetime.

Call or text your RSVP to Kathy Johnson (361781-4004) by Thursday, September 11. Stay active, fellowship together with like minds, be a part of improving your retirement and remember, “The influence of a good teacher can never be erased.”
