Local teams continue pre-district tournaments, matches

Edna Cowgirls

The Cowgirls lost a hard-fought five-game match to Shiner Tuesday, 15-25, 25-19, 16-25, 26-24, 12-15.

Leading the team statistically were Avery Garcia with seven kills and 12 digs; Emersyn Duarte with three kills, two digs and a block; Julie Koch with 11 digs; Keira Santellana with eight kills and a dig; Kelly Laredo with an ace, 15 digs and 16 assists; Leighton Hunt with two aces, 11 digs, a kill and 12 assists; Mariana Ackley with two aces, a kill, a block, and a dig; Marlee Holmes with two aces, 24 digs and an assist; Serenity Barrera with two kills, a block and a dig; and Rihanna Woods with a kill.

Edna fell to 7-12 with the loss to Shiner.

The Cowgirls competed in the Goliad Tournament over the Labor Day Weekend. Results will be published in next week’s newspaper, due to early holiday deadlines on Thursday.

Industrial Cobras

The Cobras lost in three games against Goliad on Tuesday, 12-25, 10-25, 925 in pre-district volleyball. The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A by Max-Preps and No. 3 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Industrial returned to action on Thursday in the Seguin Varsity Tournament.

They dropped their opening match to San Antonio Christian 25-23, 20-25, 1625, ranked No. 2 in TAPPS 5A by MaxPreps, but rebounded with a two-game sweep of Del Valle, 25-13, 25-14 in their second matchup of the day.

The win over Del Valle upped the Cobras’ record to 16-8.

Due to early deadlines, the results from the Seguin Tournament will be published next week.

Ganado Maidens

The Maidens lost their Tuesday pre-district match to Rice Consolidated, 1325, 19-25, 16-25.

Stats leaders for the match included Rhylee Green with two aces and three kills; Gwen Reid with one kill and one block; Michaela Estrada with five kills and an ace; Mackenzie Tovar with an ace, two kills, a block and a tip; Avery Torres with an ace; Addison Tudyk with two kills and a block; and Kyla Stancik with four aces and a kill.

The loss to Rice dropped Ganado to 3-6 on the season.

Ganado competed in the Rice Consolidated Tournament over Labor Day Weekend. Results will be in next week’s paper.
