Commissioners approve agreement on after school programs

Jackson County Commissioners have approved agreements and a donation for three after school programs, hosted by three Jackson County churches.

First Baptist Church in Ganado, Vanderbilt Baptist Church in Vanderbilt, and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna host the programs, which the county says can set children up for success, acting as an early boost for both academic and social skills.

“These programs are designed to offer afterschool tutoring to elementary- aged children,” said Jackson County Judge Jill Sklar. “The primary goal of these programs is to identify students who may be struggling academically and provide them with the support they need to improve their performance.

Additionally, we aim to boost their social confidence, which can help reduce the likelihood of behavioral programs and future encounters with juvenile probation.”

The County does help facilitate the programs, but it does not place any financial responsibility on the taxpayers of Jackson County. The funding comes from local nonprofit Building Bridge.

“While the county as-

“We are grateful for their support, which allows us to renew these contracts annually and continue making a positive impact on our community’s children.”
