Property Taxes
Our office will be transitioning to a new tax collection software this tax season. We will be moving from Tyler software to ACT software.
Our office will close September 10 , 11 and 12 and Monday September 15 for onsite training.
This closure will include Department of Motor Vehicle transactions and Texas Parks and Wildlife transactions as well as property tax transactions.
Since everyone in our office processes tax payments and has secondary jobs related to the collections and entity payments of these taxes, it is necessary to close so that everyone is trained and ready for 2025 property tax collection season.
Should the training process not take all day on the 15, as this is our go live day, we will open our doors to the public for transactions. I want to be sure we are fully prepared to work all aspects of the software with ease while we have ACT available for questions and training.
Department of Motor Vehicles Division
This year we are experiencing numerous changes in our operations and procedures. The 88th Legislative session’s HB 718 went full force on July 1, 2025. Offices around the state as well as all dealerships have been taking training for this transition through webinars throughout the year.
When you go to a dealership to purchase a vehicle and have a trade in, you have options. You may choose to put the plate on your trade in on your new vehicle. If you have disabled plates or veteran plates, the dealership can transfer those plates to your new vehicle before you leave the lot. If you choose to have a brandnew plate on your vehicle, the dealer will put a new plate on your vehicle. The dealer will process your transaction through Web Dealer to their local tax office or the tax office of your choice. Once the tax office processes your transaction, you will receive your windshield sticker that goes with your plate. Once the dealer enters the information of your plate to a new vehicle into Web Dealer, the data is supposed to be linked to DPS for quick reference. This new process alleviates all paper plates.
Voter Registration
The Secretary of State has launched a new cloud-based software system for all election offices. We have been doing webinars training preparing for this transition.
Lupe Lopez and I along with our County Clerk, Kate Respondek, went to the Secretary of State conference August 11 through the 13 to get updates on new legislation coming out of the 89th Legislative session as well as one on one training session on the new software system.
There are still glitches in the system that are being addressed as those of us doing the processes notify the Secretary of State software team of errors in processing. As with any new software or implementation of a new program, there are going to be roadblocks that have to be addressed and fixed.
We have gotten used to that this year with all the changes going on in our office.
Texas Parks and Wildlife
Starting October 1, 2025, our office will only process registration renewals, tags for Texas Parks and Wildlife. Any individual-to-individual sales of boats and/or motors will need to be processed at your nearest Texas Parks and Wildlife office. Victoria, Texas has a Texas Parks and Wildlife office which is closest to Jackson County. Our team has been on top of all changes coming our way this year in every department and cross-training each other along the way.
We are looking forward to the new tax software system that we feel will better serve our taxpayers and entities once we get it up and running smoothly.
I am proud to work with such a great team who strives to serve our constituents every single day we open our doors.
