Colvin joins Industrial

Teaching for two decades, new Superintendent Michael Colvin is excited for the opportunity at Industrial.

Although this is his first job as superintendent, it’s his third school district to work at. He’s been at Lockhart and Comfort ISD.

“I’m all about what’s best for the kids and the community,” he said. “My wife, Annie, is also an educator, and she will be a fifth grade teacher. We’re excited to be here and I’m ready to get things going and have kids be in the building.”

For his first 100 days, Colvin is looking to listen and learn from all perspectives, and then not only maintain, but grow that.

He’s aware Industrial is a high-performing district and is ready to boost that further.

“In the past, at Comfort, I would build CTE programs, but here at Industrial, it would behoove me to listen and learn what exactly does the district need,” he said. “I know what it is on paper, but I’m here to learn what they need, because at this point I don’t know.”

Although Colvin has put in some face time with the administration and the board, he wants to continue that by meeting all the teachers, parents, students and stakeholders.

“Everyone will have different perspective, I know that, but together it’s going to be much stronger here than if we’re looking at one particular avenue,” Colvin said. “I’ve heard nothing but great things, but what makes the district tick? The people are great, but I know it’s more than that.”

Colvin is currently working on his doctorate

see SUPERINTENDENT MCHAEL COLVIN on page 3 and said it’s in the finals stages. He said the people he’s met have been great and extremely welcoming.

Not only that, he’s had several students begin to wave to him from across campus.

“For me, it boils down to the kids and the community, and I look forward to doing that by attending events and programs,” he said. “We’ve had kids here for football and volleyball, and I’ve had an opportunity to poke my head in there and say hello. I’m just ready for the school year to officially begin.”
