Jan Taylor rejects the idea that old dogs can’t learn new tricks. She firmly believes that it’s never too late to do something you’ve always wanted to.
“I’m 70, and people love to say things like, ‘You’re doing all that?’” said Taylor.
“Yes. Yes, I am. And no, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I hope it reminds someone else that the best time to start something is when your heart says so—not when the world thinks you should. Besides, I’ve got glitter in my veins and way too many ideas to sit still now.”
Her latest adventure comes in the form of a novel, The Friday Night Fix Club, about five women and their Friday night meetings around the dining table where they find friendship and support.
“The story follows a group of women who have met every Friday night for over thirty years—through births, breakups, career changes, grandkids, and grief,” she said. “What began as casual wine fests slowly turned into something sacred.”
Taylor was motivated by “sheer determination - and maybe a little divine nagging,” saying that the characters would “speak” to her as she fell asleep at night, and she just couldn’t let it go.
“Honestly I just got tired of it sitting in my bucket list, staring at me” she said.
“Fueled by late nights, good intentions, and an unshakable urge to tell the story.”
The Friday Night Fix Club is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book form, and free on Kindle Unlimited until October. Every town needs a kitchen table crowded with older women,” she said. “Strong coffee in one hand, something stronger in the other, and enough wisdom and experience to solve problems nobody else even knows how to begin, plus the best snacks you can imagine. We do it all without judgment or bias. We might have laugh lines and reading glasses, but don’t let that fool you. We take our time, but honey, we get things done — and with a heart that’s weathered storms and still beats strong.”
Taylor plans to have a sequel out around the holidays.
