Behind great pitching and timely hitting, the Industrial 8-10 minor little league softball team won the Texas Little League State Championship.
Pitching was on display all through the playoffs as Industrial allowed only six runs in their three Sectional games and then only two runs in their four State tournament games.
Overall, in the Sectional and State playoffs, the Industrial girls outscored their opponents 53-8.
Industrial had little opposition in the Sectional playoffs, until the Championship game, which they won 4-3 over Refugio.
In the State playoffs they defeated Lumberton 14-0 and Washington County 4-0 to advance to the State championship. where they again faced Washington County. Because Industrial defeated them the first time they met, Industrial only needed to win one of the two championship games.
And they would need it. The first game turned into a pitchers’ duel with Washington County winning 2-0 in their final at-bat.
Industrial would come back in the final game, picking up three runs in the early innings and then holding on for the 3-0 win.
Little League Minors softball, the 8-10 year old girls, do not advance beyond the state championship game.
