An Edna man was arrested on Thursday, July 10 after an altercation that brought not only Jackson County law enforcement but also Victoria Police Department’s SWAT team.
According to a Facebook post by Edna Police Chief Kenny Pyle, David Hawkins, 59, was arrested after police responded to Harlem Street in Edna around 8 p.m. on Thursday, following a report of a man welding a machete.
“Upon arrival the male subject was barricaded in his residence with his mother,” the post said, “Making threats to her life if she left the residence.”
Hawkins’ mother reportedly escaped the home through a window, assisted by police, and was transported to the Jackson County Hospital via ambulance.
Pyle said police used a taser to apprehend Hawkins, who sustained “very minor injuries.”
Hawkins remained in jail at press time, charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Terroristic Threat Impeding public Service/Public Fear of Serious Bodily Injury/ Influence Government, and Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon.
