Did you know Prosperity Bank started in Edna, founded in 1983? Banking Center President, McKenna Pustka, shared that tidbit of information when inviting the county and their children to visit the Edna bank’s Beat the Heat community and customer appreciation event, on Tuesday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free Texas Shaved Ice snow cones will be in the parking lot, along with music, games, giveaways, and information on their teen checking and savings account, plus minor accounts, too.
“Our Edna Prosperity Team brought this event to life last year to pay homage to our “home base” of Edna and Jackson County and to promote financial literacy to young people in our community,” she explained. “We wanted to host an event the whole family can enjoy. A snow cone is just a small token of our appreciation, but if we can have a positive impact on a young person’s first real interaction with a Bank…that’s what it’s all about.”
The event is free, and Pustka said it’s where parents can bring their kids and let them meet a banker in a relaxed setting, and if they want to get into the finer details of banking, they can begin that conversation at the event.
“We’re currently promoting our Teen Checking and Good Cents Savings accounts to help in teaching teens how to responsibly spend, and more importantly, save their money,” she said. “And who doesn’t love a snow cone?”
Pustka said Prosperity Bank was founded through the acquisition of a former Allied Bank branch, which dated back to the First National Bank of Edna in the 1940s. Their 2025 first quarter earnings reported over $38 billion in assets, and operates in 284 fell-service banking locations across Texas and Oklahoma.
“I really enjoy sharing the bank’s history with our community, we’ve grown quite a bit. Prosperity has been ranked in the top 10 for 14 consecutive years,” she said. “Additionally, we were named the “Best Overall Bank in Texas by Money for 2024-25, and ranked among “America’s Best Regional Banks” by Newsweek this year.
“I’m also proud to share that as of 1Q 2025, the FDIC reported that Prosperity Bank is the largest agricultural lender by dollar volume in the state of Texas and among the top 20 largest in the United States.”
Now their corporate base is in Houston, but Edna and Jackson County is where it started, while other banks have come and gone since the 80s. Pustka said they’re proud of where it started, and they want to thank their customers who bank with them, and they look forward to continuing serving their friends in Jackson County.
“If you need a good, local bank, we would be honored to take care of you,” Pustka added. “We hope to see you and your family at our event.”
