Former Ganado resident and former Jackson County Thunder pitcher Glenn Sparkman made his major league debut last season as a reliever with the Toronto Blue Jays. This season, back with the Kansas City Royals organization, Sparkman has been pitching effective in relief and after starter Danny Duffy got injured, Sparkman made his first major league start on Thursday night.

Because of a rain delay, Sparkman was forced to wait over two hours to throw his first pitch and because of a pitch count he was only able to work four innings. Sparkman had been sent back to the minors in order to get his pitch count up so he would be able to return as a September call up but the Duffy injury sped up his return to the majors.

Sparkman worked four inning and allowed two earned runs. Because he only worked four inning and not five, he was not eligible for the victory.
