Edna ships off Exporters

With a chance of heavy rain moving Jackson County varsity football games to Thursday, the Edna Cowboys didn’t miss a beat as they dominated the Brazosport Exporters 42-3.

The Cowboys offense controlled the ball, and the clock, the entire game, and the defense had a shutout going until the Exporters kicked a field goal with a few minutes left in the game.

Brazosport returned the opening kick of the game to the Edna nine yard line, but the Cowboy defense showed they were going to be a force and ended up forcing the Exporters to attempt a field goal, which they missed. Making the stop even more incredible, in the middle of the drive, the Cowboys defense was flagged for pass interference, which gave the Explorers the ball at the Edna three yard line. Brazosport would finish the first quarter with -22 yards offense.

Behind Dayton McCoy and Kenny Haynes, the Cowboys offense moved the ball right from the start and Javonte Seymore started the scoring with a 40 yard touchdown run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Edna defenders were all over the Brazosport returner and they ended up with the ball at their own seven yard line. On fourth down, with the Exporters pushed back in their own end zone, a bad snap on a punt attempt sailed out of the end zone for a safety and Edna took a 9-0 lead.
