Vernon Kenneth “V.K.” Sowell, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at the age of 84. He was born in Edna, Texas on Sept. 2, 1933, to the late V.K. Sowell and Viola Arps Sowell. Vernon work as a ranch foreman for the Wood Family Ranch in Goliad, Texas and retired from Reilly Ranch in Refugio, Texas. Vernon will be greatly missed by his loving wife, son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Janie Matula Preston Sowell; son, Vint K. “Sonny” Sowell; brother, Maynard L. Sowell (Sherry Kelley); grandchildren, Vincent K. Sowell (Heather), Derrick S. Sowell (Laura), and Haylee Ann Sowell; great-grandchild, Truett Sowell; special young lady, Jessica Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, V.K. and Viola Sowell; and daughter-in-law, Ann Sowell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 9:30 -11 a.m., with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial to follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna. Rev. Adam Knapp will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Jones, Domingo Lopez, Rick Kresta, Wayne Cobb, Lee Putman, and Mike Lopez.
