Maidens learn new rotation

By Millie Diaz

The Maidens’ progression hiccupped last week in their Tuesday game against Waelder: one of their senior leaders, setter Alexis Mojica, experienced a concussion during the game after accidentally colliding with a teammate and taking an elbow to the head. The collision brought Mojica to the ground, and her head hit the floor as well.

The scary part is, Mojica didn’t realize something was wrong right away.

“Monday and Tuesday (of last week) are still a blur to me,” she said on Sunday night. “I’m starting to remember Friday and the weekend now, but my doctor said it’s going to be a long process coming back.”

Mojica hopes to be back at school this week, but in following doctor’s orders, she still needs two weeks off, and the two weeks following, she can do basic minor movements, like walking and running. She may not be able to return to the volleyball season at all, nor cross-country.
