Getting in a win

By Gabriella Alvarez

“Any time you get a win it feels really good, especially because our kids just responded. They did everything this week they had to do to get ready and they got rewarded for it. They got to win on Friday night,” said new interim Athletic Director, Johnny Lesak, after the Ganado Indians swatted the Louise Hornets resulting in a 34-6 win this past Friday night.

This was the first win of the season for the Indians -which they accomplished on Hornet territory. The Louise Hornets put up a good fight, but couldn’t stop the Indian rumble.

The first quarter was filled with back and forth action by both teams. Fernando Rubio started off the night with the kick-off that was taken to the 48-yard line by the Hornets. Indians took over the ball after four failed attempts from the Hornets.

With 8:24 left in the first quarter the Hornets made their first careless snaps of the night, resulting in the Hornets putting the ball to the Indians 22-yard line. With an abundant amount of flags and injuries from the Hornets, the first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

In the second quarter senior Jacob Martinez achieved a first and goal to give his teammates the motivation to carry out the first touchdown of the game at the 7:50 mark by teammate senior Toby Ortiz.

“I had a lot things going through my head,” Ortiz said in reflection of his touchdown. “I could not thank the line more -a shout out to the offensive line. I can’t be more thankful for my teammates, they played well.”
