Thieves get nothing in attempted ATM robbery

There was an attempted robbery at the James Food Mart convenience store just outside of Lolita, right beside the Inteplast plant, around 4 a.m. on Saturday, July 7.

“Three male subjects backed up to the front doors,” Chief Deputy Rick Boone said. “They pried the front door open and attempted to remove the ATM. They tried using a sawzall or a cordless grinder and a pry bar but were unsuccessful in removing the ATM.”

“I got the alarm call at 4:15 a.m.,” manager Kathy Rector said. “We have had a bunch of false alarms lately that have told us ‘glass broke, front door’ and that is what this one said. So when I got to the store, it was 4:30 and I called the sheriff’s off back and told them this time it was not a false alarm.”
