The first impression most people had of Ganado junior Josh Labay this past year was on the football field, as the “skinny kid” took the hand-off and disappeared into the shoving, grunting pile of the line, then suddenly reappeared on the other side, seemingly without breaking stride.
“Last year, coach said I had pretty good [field] vision,” Labay said. “It’s just what I have. In practice, I couldn’t see the holes when I wasn’t in, but I could see them when I was in.”
The youngest of Mike and Cathy Labay was a double honorable mention All-State selection at runningback and free safety.
“It’s kinda crazy, when I first heard about it I was shocked,” Josh admitted. “I really wasn’t expecting anything that big. It kinda took my breath away. My brother [Seth] called and told me about it, so I looked on the internet and there it was. It shocked me more than anything.”
Josh has committed himself to summer workouts this year as he hopes to draw a little bit of scouting attention. He has already earned a little extra attention, being named one of 1A’s players to watch in the “Texas Football” annual Fall preview edition...
