Bullying at the Cape
Once you enter the gates of Cape Carancahua the Board of Directors think they are in control and you have left the USA.
If you need ordinary maintenance on your home, the Board is demanding that you get a permit before any work can begin. If you do not comply, the Board will personally escort the contractor from the Cape and not allow said contractor to work in the Cape again. They have intimidated widows, widowers and contractors with permit fees and permit postings and if you complain, you are told get a lawyer and then non-compliance fees will be issued.
Living out in the country it is difficult enough to find someone who is willing to take on small jobs of needed repairs. Nowhere in our deed restrictions or by-laws does it state that a permit is needed to do routine maintenance. If you need a board replaced on your deck, stairs replaced, it does not matter, it’s the Board’s way or no way.
One lawsuit regarding illegal fees has been filed against the Board. A second lawsuit is pending and a third is in the works.
Cape homeowners need to wake up and not be lulled by the feel good newsletter the Cape publishes.
